At East Bay Periodontics and Implant Dentistry, we provide advanced periodontal treatments. We have a highly qualified team to treat gum disease in East Bay. Dr. Santiago uses a specific laser to perform the LANAP protocol, the only FDA-approved laser gum disease treatment that can regenerate bone. You might have developed gum disease from a number of causes, like smoking, chronic illness, or genetic susceptibility.

Our gum treatment delivers effective results without the need for cutting or sutures. The treatment makes use of an Nd:YAG laser, an advanced piece of equipment that is used in dentistry and for other medical applications.

The precise nature of this instrument makes it possible for treatment to target the source of inflammation, saving healthy gum tissue from being removed or destroyed.

This treatment can decrease pocket depth, slow or stop attachment loss, and regenerate bone that has been lost from chronic infection.

Is LANAP Laser Periodontal Therapy Right for Me?

Laser periodontal therapy has several key advantages over traditional surgery. Many types of periodontal surgery for gum disease require cutting and sutures, while laser therapy does not. As a result there is reduced recovery and healing times for this type of procedure.

During the Procedure

The LANAP treatment generally requires two separate visits, each covering one side of the mouth and lasting about two hours.

The gums specialist uses the laser to remove inflamed gum tissue and bacteria around the roots of your teeth. They then use an ultrasonic cleaner to remove plaque and tartar build-up found around the gum line and down along the root. Next, your own bleeding is used in combination with the laser to create a clot or scab that will protect the gums as they heal.

Recovery

You may have some soreness following the procedure. During recovery, patients should not brush or floss for the first ten days and maintain a diet of soft foods. In some cases, splints may be necessary to hold certain teeth in place as the gums heal and tighten around them.
